‘My surroundings in North Wales are the initial inspiration for my work which investigates the light, shade and shadows created in landscape, both urban and rural. Using a limited palette of Paynes Grey and White, I explore the effect of perspective and tones to create a sense of haunting mystery and dark corners to provoke memories and varied associations in the viewer’.

‘I have been going to Life Drawing classes for several years now and have used various media in that time but now I have been using charcoal. It lends itself easily to creating shadows and the smoothness of skin. My interest lies in shadows and shapes, using strong light against the skin. I enjoy drawing a person’s back in particular when there is a twist in the spine and muscle’.
