Jane Elizabeth Griffiths-Jones MA

About Jane Elizabeth Griffiths-Jones MA
Born in Cheshire in 1966 and brought up a grocer’s daughter on the island of Anglesey, from the age of three my beginnings as an Anglo/Welsh artist were humble as I began drawing on ‘any’ freely available scraps of white paper including the torn out endpapers of my mother’s historical novels.
My art education is eclectic and constitutes an MA in Illustration with Commendation gained from the University of Hertfordshire, a BA (Hons) 2:1 in Design, and a PGCW in Creative Writing both gained at Bangor.
In 2016 during my Post Graduate Research I questioned the idea of a ‘Contemporary Sublime’. During my research and enquiry I explored installation art presented by Olafur Eliasson and James Turrell; both who one might suggest manifest an emotional response by the viewer; perhaps even the idea of a contemporary sublime. My research has been a catalyst in the production of my current paintings of the Anglesey landscape, its coastline and its heritage.
Previous Exhibitions
I have exhibited my work at The Royal Cambrain Academy (2008- joint exhibition chosen by the panel), Oriel Ynys Mon Llangefni, (2007- Solo Exhibition), Galeri Caernarfon (2005- Joint Exhibition), and the Ucheldre Centre Holyhead (1999- Joint Exhibition).
I am also a published author and illustrator of children’s picture books that include the publication of the Peta Pengwin Trilogy published by Gomer Press.
