Jasmine Hughes, born in Bangor in 1957, has been painting from early childhood. Animals, particularly horses, have played a pivotal part in her life. As a horse owner, she enjoys the unique opportunity to study the equine subject at close quarters, enabling her to focus attention on anatomical detail and movement. Acrylics and mixed media suit her bold and colourful artistic style. However, her choice of medium constantly evolves in response to her developing ideas. She finds watercolours particularly effective in creating sensitive, detailed animal portraiture.
